ACES Started in 2008, thanks to the continued generosity and compassion of an anonymous donor, the ACES Project is thriving and achieving its goals. The goals of ACES are three-fold:
1. Culture Classes – To aid the Tibetan Alliance of Chicago (TAC) in its endeavors of preserving the Tibetan culture for generations to come. To this end, every Sunday TAC operates Culture Classes (Tibetan language, history, religious studies and performing arts) to its young members (Pre-K through college). Recognizing the importance of preserving their fragile culture, parents also contribute from their limited financial resources to these cultural classes.
*If you would like to help TAC preserve their culture, please consider making a donation.*
2. Education Tutoring – for pre-K through 12th members. A good well-rounded education is critical in order for TAC’s young to become productive members of American society. To this end, every Saturday a group of devoted volunteers (retirees, college students and other interested people) come to the Tibetan Alliance to tutor our young with emphasis on math, reading, writing and science. Many of our young come from families whose parents have limited education and English skills – the tutors help both students and parents navigate the American school system.
* If any Tibetan parent wants to enroll their child into the tutoring program please contact Dolker la and Phurbu Lhamo la.
3. Scholarships – $1,000 scholarships are awarded twice a year (Fall and Spring semesters) to one Tibetan student each semester. To qualify Tibetan students must be attending a college or university in Illinois full-time (12 or more hours) and maintain a C or better in all subjects. This scholarship money is a financial help to parents, who are mostly in low paying service jobs, fill in the gaps that loans and other scholarships don’t cover. Any Tibetan college students interested in applying for a scholarship please ACES Scholarship Application 2 and fill out the application form.
*The Tibetan Alliance of Chicago would like to offer more scholarships opportunities, please consider making a donation.*
